- Technical/Design Developer, Carolina Digital Library Initiative: “Going to the Show”January 2006-August 2007 A ground-breaking project conceived by Dr. Robert Allen (UNC, American Studies) and developed in collaboration with a small group of SILS graduate students. After my involvement in the initial phase of the project, Dr. Allen hired me to continue to develop the technological and design aspects of the project on a paid basis. * Designed innovative front-end interface & content management system for displaying digitized objects (maps, photos, etc) with layered GIS and historical research data (KML, Google Earth, Adobe Flash). * Designed back-end interface for data entry and administrative information retrieval (XHTML, CSS). * Designed and implemented MySQL database. * Initiated back-end programming (PHP). * Provided instruction on metadata collection and digitization standards to faculty and graduate students responsible for collecting data and digitizing objects for the project. * Drafted and implemented data collection, information management and project management policies and procedures. Researched accepted standards, institutional guidelines, and practices and procedures in place at other institutions in developing our own policies.
- CALA, Preservation Department, UNC LibrariesSeptember 2005-August 2007 Managed the Brittle Books Unit (a division of the Preservation Department) for the UNC University Libraries. Developed and maintained databases for tracking projects, designed new staff interface for 2 major departmental databases, and coordinated special projects involving multiple departments. Involved in coordinating large-scale departmental restructuring. Served on UNC’s Emergency Preparedness Committee.
